  • アメリカの言語と文化センター（CELCIS）は、1975年に設立され、英語が第二外国語である学生たちがアメリカの大学と職場で英語で会話できるように教育することを目的としています。この英語教育センターは、ミシガン州立大学に所属し、南ミシガンの東部ランシングに位置しています。東部ランシングは、ミシガンにある他の都市との車で移動するに近い距離にあり、美しい自然に囲まれています。本センターでは、マキノーアイランド、シカゴ、カナダのナイアガラの滝など観光地とも近く、旅行が簡単です。

  • 授業フォーカス : 
    英語集中履修プログラムは、キャンパス内の学習プログラムで、海外出身の学生たちが英語を習得して、ミシガン州の西部の大学、およびアメリカ国内の大学の学部や大学院の課程を成功的に履修するための大学レベルの学習能力を養うようにします。

    授業目標 : 
    勉強が好きではない学生も気軽に聞くことができるコースです。
     
    カリキュラム : 
    アメリカの言語と文化センター（CELCIS）の授業は、学生たちがアメリカ国内の大学で勉強する準備をさせ、これと同時に専門家たちが自分の事のために英語力を向上させることにも役に立ちます。学生たちは5段階に分かれた授業を聞きます。基礎、初級、中級、中上級、上級に分かれているこのコースは、1日に4時間、週5日で構成され、4つの授業に分かれています。学生たちは、１日に１時間のリスニングとスピーキングの授業、2時間のリーディングとライティングのクラス、そして1時間の英文法や綴字法の授業を聞きます。スピーキング/リスニングと文法/会話クラスは全学期行われ、リーディング/ライティングは、7週完成のプログラムです。学生たちは全学期にわたって週20時間の授業を受けることになります。

    キャンパス内のアパート - 家具付きの場所とそうでないところに分かれており、各号室には、2つのベッドルームがあります。
    キャンパス外のアパート - キャンパスの外、カラーマージュに住んでいる学生たちのための施設が揃っています。
    ホームステイ - 学生寮、アパート、ホテルのほか、居住期間の間、泊まれるホームステイのプログラムも提供されます。

学校周辺の環境

  • 2011年、アメリカ国内の研究結果によると、カラマズーは、大学生が住みやすい都市25位に選ばれました。特に、相対的に物価が安く、住むところを探すことも簡単で、仕事を見つけるのも容易いです。しかし、これはミシガン西部の大学ガ持っている、数多い資産の一つに過ぎません。カラマズーは、他のものでも有名です。特に、国際医療センターが並んでいて、アップジョン·カンパニー、ストライカー法人、ギブソン·ギターズ、チェッカー·モーターズ、ベルズ·ブリュワリーなどの本社も位置しています。カラマズーガジェットは、ミシガンで2番目に古い新聞で知られており、ここは100年前に、セロリで有名な市だったのでセロリ都市と呼ばれました。大統領に当選する3年前に、アブラハムリンカーンは1856年にこの場所で唯一のスピーチをしました。ミシガン西部の大学以外にも、カラマズーはカラマズー大学とカラマズーコミュニティカレッジの本拠地です。3つの教育機関は、様々な分野で協力していて、地域の文化、教育の機会を拡大し、経済を成長させるのに一役買っています。

Q: 在網站上到西密西根大學有條件式入學，請問何為條件式入學，以及條件式入學的標準是什麼呢? A: 您好，感謝您的提問。 關於條件式入學的部分，就是當您的英語成績以經達到標準時，便可以直接申請入大學就讀。西密西根大學西提供條件式錄取到給已經達到學術要求，但不符合英語水平要求的學生。如果學生已經達到了學術入學要求，但不符合英語水平的要求時，西密歇根大學將讓學生進到西密歇根大學的英語強化課程（CELCIS）中學習。

夏可蘭

這次參家密集英語課程後，關於西密西根大學的環境部分特別想跟大家分享一下!!!
環境:人口約22萬左右的小鎮,華人人口相對美國其他地區低很多!若下定決心想學英文此地是很好的選擇!夏天早晚溫差大可攜一件長袖薄外套。
交通:交通方面較為不便,附近沒有地鐵站僅有火車站及公車或taxi!公車禮拜日停駛。如果需要下廚或添購用品須儘早。在這裡沒有車其實蠻不方便的,遊學前建議可以先上FB與西密西根台灣同學會的人連絡,大家會熱情告訴你該注意的地方及遊覽校園(當然也有免費司機載你購物)。
學校:綠樹環繞設施完善,圖書館除特定價日外都會開放!語校的老師都十分熱情教學也相當活潑!會依不同級別指導如何獨立撰寫paper非常受用。
宿舍:兩人一間房,兩房共用一間衛浴!宿舍空間寬敞!附有獨立單人床,書桌及衣櫃!可無線上網,須先下載學校的防毒軟體,並自備網路線!宿舍地下室有洗衣機與烘衣機。
課外活動:學校每個禮拜會有1~2次不等的課外活動,若想獨自遊覽可以去市中心(公車終點站即是)或搭火車前往芝加哥。
